Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our programs, classes, and policies.
Getting Started
What age can my child start martial arts?+
We accept students starting at age 5 in our Tigers program. Children ages 5-8 learn foundational skills in an age-appropriate, fun environment. Most of our students are between ages 8-15 and attend local elementary, middle, and high schools.
Do I need any prior martial arts experience?+
Absolutely not! Our programs are designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced martial artists. Our rotating curriculum means you can join anytime without feeling behind.
How do I sign up for a free trial?+
Simply fill out our free trial form online or give us a call at 720-353-4557. We'll schedule a convenient time for you to try a class.
What should I wear to my first class?+
Wear comfortable athletic clothing (t-shirt and athletic pants or shorts). No shoes are worn on the training floor. Once enrolled, you'll receive a uniform (gi).
Classes & Programs
What style of martial arts do you teach?+
We teach International Kenpo Karate Jiujitsu, which combines striking techniques with grappling and self-defense. We are NOT a Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) school—we teach traditional Japanese Kamishin Ryu Jiujitsu.
Why don't you mix age groups in classes?+
We believe age-specific instruction provides the best learning environment. Kids learn differently than teens and adults, and peer learning is enhanced when students train with others their own age. Your 8-year-old won't be training with teenagers.
How often should my child attend class?+
We recommend attending at least twice per week for consistent progress. With our unlimited membership, you can attend as often as your schedule allows.
What is the class structure like?+
Classes typically run 45-60 minutes and include warm-up exercises, technique instruction, partner drills, and skill application. We focus on both physical skills and character development.
Belt System & Testing
How does the belt ranking system work?+
Students progress through a series of colored belt ranks before reaching black belt. Each rank has specific techniques and knowledge requirements. Our instructors will let you know when you're ready to test.
How often is belt testing?+
Colored belt testing is conducted bi-monthly. Black belt examinations are held twice per year, in February and August.
Is there a fee for belt testing?+
Yes, there is a testing fee that covers the examination, testing ceremony, and your new belt. Contact us for current testing fees.
How long does it take to earn a black belt?+
The journey to black belt typically takes 3-5 years of consistent training, though this varies by individual. The goal is mastery, not speed.
Membership & Pricing
Do you require long-term contracts?+
No! We operate on a month-to-month basis. We earn your continued enrollment through quality instruction, not binding contracts.
Do you offer family discounts?+
Yes! We offer discounts for families with multiple students enrolled. We also offer special rates for teachers and first responders.
What's included in the membership?+
Your membership includes unlimited class attendance for all classes appropriate for your age and skill level. Training equipment and uniforms have separate fees.
